Yesterday BRW Games was at the first-ever ShireCon in the beautiful Berkshire mountains of Connecticut. This was a relatively small convention, held in a former church-turned-theater that had a very “Horticulture Hall” vibe. There were about a ten games being played in each of two sessions, and two other vendors were there to round things out.
Things went very smoothly, especially for a first-time convention. There was a very old-school vibe, with games like Swords & Wizardry and Paranoia being played, as well as a table doing Lord of the Rings miniatures (it looked like the battle of Helm’s Deep). I was fortunate enough to meet up with a number of friends and fans that I either hadn’t seen in a long while, or had never met face to face. Adventures Dark and Deep and Castle of the Mad Archmage were both big hits among the shoppers, and we seemed to make a positive impression overall.
This was also our first time using the video screen for prices and promotion (you can see it on the right side of our table in some of the photos below). It got a lot of positive comments!
This was a terrific small convention, and well worth the trip. BRW will definitely be there next year, and hopes to see the con grow.
